The demand to erect a statue of the late actor Padma Shri Sivaji Ganesan in Trichy was fulfilled when the DMK government decided to install a bronze statue in 2009. The 9-foot-tall full-figure bronze statue was set up at the Prabhat Roundabout on Palakkarai Main Road. However, despite the completion of the work in 2011, the statue remained unopened due to a change in government.
After repeated requests from various quarters, Municipal Administration Minister K.N. Nehru assured that the statue would be relocated and unveiled. He stated this during a recent council meeting. Accordingly, the statue was shifted to the roundabout near the Trichy Central Bus Stand on Warners Road, and the work was completed recently.
The statue is scheduled to be unveiled by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on May 9, during his visit to Trichy for the opening of the Panchapur Bus Stand. Actor Prabhu, Sivaji Ganesan’s son, is expected to attend the event.
Raja, a fan of Sivaji Ganesan and district president of the Actor Prabhu Narpani Mandam, said that the DMK government’s decision to install the statue was a welcome move. However, the subsequent AIADMK government’s failure to unveil the statue had disappointed fans. He thanked the Chief Minister and Minister K.N. Nehru for their efforts in getting the statue unveiled. Raja expressed gratitude to all fans and the public who had been requesting the statue’s unveiling and appreciated the DMK government’s decision to fulfill the long-pending demand. He also thanked the Chief Minister and Minister for their support in ensuring the statue’s unveiling, which would be a memorable event for Sivaji Ganesan’s fans.
